With Aurifil Designer Kathy Ross - Full Day - 10am - 4pm

2nd Class added.....
March 14th - all other details are the same
Call us to book if you missed out on the January class!

Have you always wanted to learn how to create your own  artwork using your sewing machine? If so, then Kathys Ross beginners workshop in applique and free motion embroidery is just the thing for you. Kathy is Irelands only Aurifil Artisan and a brand ambassador for Janome UK.  Just bring yourself and your sense of humour, guaranteed to result in excited squeals from time to time! At the end of the day you will take away a completed sampler of various techniques, ready to frame.

Over the course of the day you will  be provided with a pattern to cut out and create your own bespoke textile art. The finished piece can be framed as is, or if your feeling more adventurous, used as a quilting panel or turned into placemats, cushions, a quilt...

Kathy will go through the basics of free hand embroidery over the class showing you how to layer threads and fabrics to create a unique eye catching piece to show off to friends and family.

Learn how to:
• Drop the feed on your machine and “draw” using the thread
• Stitch with freedom- anywhere, any direction
• Apply cut fabrics onto a background
• Write words freehand
• Be inspired to make your own designs and see how versatile and truly addictive this art form really is.

You will need to bring your own sewing machine, as long as you can drop the feed and have an embroidery foot. Just bring yourself and your sense of humour, guaranteed to result in excited squeals from time to time! At the end of the day you will take away a completed sampler of various techniques, ready to frame.

January 25th - Clone Your Clothes
With Charlotte the Seamstress - Full Day - 10am - 5pm

Do you have a favourite garment that fits you perfectly and would love to recreate it?
Then this all day workshop is for you!

This class will teach you how to copy your clothes by making a pattern from an
existing garment. You will leave the class with a toile (test garment) and a new pattern
ready to be made up in new fabrics! You will NOT be cutting up your original garment,
(unless it is worn out and you are happy to cut it up.)

What to bring:
To make your toile, please bring a length of calico/lining/an old bedsheet or other cheap
material as close as possible in weight and drape to the fabric you intend to use for the
final garment.
i.e. If it will be made in cotton lawn a bedsheet or polycotton lining will do fine. If it will
be made in heavy denim or wool, calico or canvas will be great.
Ruler
Pen/pencil
Notepaper
Tracing paper/roll of paper for pattern pieces
Cheap Test fabric

Haberdashery items
Fabric scissors or rotary cutter and mat
Thread snips
Seam ripper
Measuring tape
Pins

Objectives:
Learn how to Copy the shape of your garment
Transfer seam lines, grainline, darts, gathers, tucks and any other design details to your
new pattern.
Add seam allowances and notches for construction.
You’ll need to have sewn before as well as have some basic construction skills prior to
attending the course.
Because of the limited time frame, we recommend you bring something that is not too
complicated or made of many many pattern pieces. If in doubt, you could bring more
than one garment and get advice from your tutor.

We will cut out & sew the new pattern in a test fabric similar in weight and drape to your finished fabric to test the pattern.
You will leave ready to sew up your brand new unique pattern at home!
